Feeling Motivated...or not? A-Z of Motivation

Usually it is pain that will be the reason why people make changes.  For example, not being able to fasten your jeans may make you realise you need to get your good habits back on track or it could be getting bad results in a test makes you realise you need to study more.  Being in debt may force you to take action to create your own income so you are not reliant on others to decide your income.  Being humiliated in work may give you the push to speak up more or to work on your mindset so you can fight back confidently and save face from the next embarrassing moment.  It may be your closest friend or family's tragic experience that makes you change what you are doing right now or it could be something like a film or book that gives you that drive and motivation you need to improve yourself.  

If you look around, there will always be people trying to pull you down and waiting for you to fail.  It could be your closest family members or people on Facebook (who you don't really know you that well) but you still let their hurtful comments and mind games impact you.  With all the people trying to pull you down and waiting for you to fail, how can you stay motivated and positive?

With every blog, vlog, video I release.  With anything I put out in my Dance Club Membership, Challenge Groups, Free Facebook Women Rising Up Group or in my newsletter to my subscribers, my aim is to have you thinking more.  Changing your current beliefs so that you can rise up and go for more and become more motivated.

So here is an A to Z of tips for motivation 

A - Achieving your dreams. Avoid negative and toxic people, things and places because they will only drag you down. If you are surrounded by negativity then your mind will have no time to think about the future.  “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Eleanor Roosevelt.

B - Believe in your self, and in what you can do. Believe in your possibilities and your dreams. Every advancement of humankind has taken place because someone believed in themselves.  Surround yourself with positive thinkers and other dreamers.  A great way to start is to build a vision board and set goals. I will be diving into this further in my Free FB Group Women Rising Up And Ready For More

C – Consider all of the angles and aspects of everything you encounter, whether it is people or situations. Motivation comes from strength of purpose. Being able to see both points of view will give you more chance of being successful and keeping those around you motivated too.  It is too easy to only see one side of the coin.  Becoming self aware and being opening to learning and listening is key.

D – Don’t give up and don’t give in. Every successful person from J K Rowling to Walt Disney to Sylvester Stallone to Thomas Edison had multiple failures before being successful. Sometimes their failures or rejections ran into the hundreds before they achieved success.  I have failed numerous times over the years but have learned so much as a result which brought me to where I am today.  Don't be afraid to try something new.  If something doesn't work then I always do a lessons learned afterwards so that I don't make the same mistakes again.

E – Enjoy. Work as if you don’t need money. Dance as if nobody’s watching. Love as if you never cried. Learn as if you’ll live forever. Motivation takes place when people are happy.  For a long time I was so focused on the money.  And I mean that from the angle of not having it.  Growing up after our house fire, our family had very little disposable income so we rarely went on holidays or day trips.  My parents knew the price of everything down to the penny.  Brought up with the "money doesn't grow on trees" phrase made me so frightened of not having money or spending it and struggling that my mind was so focused on the making an income rather than enjoying the journey.  These were my money beliefs since growing up.  Even to this day, I struggle to spend money on me because of that, but I am working on it. 

F – Family and Friends. Use your family and friends to help you stay motivated. The big sports teams have fans to encourage and motivate them. Your family and friends can be your cheerleaders and fans. Use them to keep you going when you feel your motivation drifting.  The important thing here though is to recognise if you don't have anyone cheering you on or motivating you as this may be part of the reason why you are struggling.  If this is the case, it is time to take action now and find yourself an accountability group to keep you on track with your goals. My accountability and challenge groups are great for this so don't hesitate to get in touch with me for details.  A new support community may be just what you need right now.

G – Give that little bit extra. Self improvement happens everywhere all the time, whether you are at home, at work or at school. The difference in effort between excellent and outstanding is tiny, yet the difference in rewards is massive. Giving that little bit extra can put you into the outstanding. Listening to a motivational podcast in the car on the way to work every day will train your brain to think differently.  Listening to ways to grow your own business whilst you are cooking will have you thinking differently and getting more creative about future possibilities.  Those little extra snippets of time all add up.  

H – Hang on to your dreams. There may be times when it looks bleak, but hang on to your dreams. The night is darkest just before the dawn. It is at this moment that you are closest to success and 95% of people will give up. Push through this moment and you’ll achieve your dreams.  

I – Ignore those who try to destroy you. Don’t get involved in their dramas or toxicity – just walk away. Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you. Remove those who want to pull you down and watch you fail from your life. You’ll find it much easier to stay motivated.  I have had to do this on a few occasions and it has made such a difference to my life.  I watch women and hear from women on a weekly basis as to how their social feeds are full of negativity, how they don't have supportive people around them.  Now is the time to remove as many of them from your life.  It's time to take action.  

J – Joy and gratitude. Perhaps two of the fundamentals for motivation and success is to be joyful in what you do and grateful for what you have.  Every morning I write down three things that I was grateful for from the previous day.  You will be surprised how it starts to change your thinking and helps you to appreciate everything around you. 

K – Keep pushing forwards no matter how hard life may seem. In the toughest moments you can choose to move forwards or to run away. It’s your decision – one path brings you closer to the success, the other takes you away from it. Which do you want to follow?

L – Learn to love your self. This isn’t as easy as it sounds for most people, but by loving yourself you will be happier and more motivated because you will believe you deserve what you achieve.  The thing is with this one is that you need to work on this every day otherwise the inner b*tch voice will make an appearance.

M – Make things happen. Motivation and success doesn’t come from sitting in front of the television drinking alcohol and eating pizza. Take action and you’ll achieve your dreams. If you are doing this regularly then this isn't going to motivate you at all.

N – Never pull someone else down to make yourself feel good.  Always play a fair game. At the end of the day, if you live that way, it will come back to haunt you. 

O – Open your eyes. Everyone has a set of blinkers that they wear and see everything through them, i.e. how they would like things to be. Learn how to take off the blinkers by reading more. Trying new things and setting goals.   Then take action to make it happen.

P – Practice makes perfect. The more you practice at something, the better you become. A top sportswoman doesn’t reach her status through a single practice or game. They practice harder and longer than anyone else, and as such, are rewarded more than anyone else.  When you start your fitness journey or take your first workout, it will be hard.  You might not make it to the end but when you persevere you get better and better.  The same goes if you decide you want to start a business.  You can't start on day one and expect to have a successful business overnight.  There are so many things you have to learn along the way so you have to stay consistent with it. Invest in a coach or mentor to support you especially at the beginning.  

Q – Quitters never win. And winners never quit. So, which do you want to be?  This is an interesting one as when things get hard, our brain usually tells us to stop.  When it gets hard it means it is pushing you out of your comfort zone which is what we want.  This is where the growth happens. 

R – Ready yourself. Always be ready to take advantage of the opportunities and situations presented to you. Prepare in advance, and ignore the voice telling you to put it off until tomorrow. Remember, it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark!  Most people are so oblivious to opportunities that are in front of them as they are closed off and wary of everything and everyone.  Be opened minded and always be open to at least taking a look at it.

S – Stop procrastinating. You can put it all off until tomorrow, but one day there will be no more tomorrows. Start procrastinating about procrastinating and do tomorrow's jobs today.  The thing is, if you're honest with yourself, how many times have you said I'll do it tomorrow. I can't tell you how many times I hear the words, I'll start tomorrow.  It's time to remove that word and take action NOW!

T – Take control of your life. Discipline and self control are synonymous with motivation. So many people believe their lives are out of their control. Look at your life in detail and you’ll discover you have more areas under your control than you think.  This is where a planner comes in extremely well.  My planner keeps me focused, helps me achieve more and stay in control of my day.  Here is the link to the one that I use.

U – Understand others. If you know very well how to talk, you should also learn how to listen. You have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Understand others and strive to be understood.

V – Visualise it. Your sub-conscious knows no difference between your imagination and reality, so if you rehearse your success in your mind, then your sub-conscious will believe in it and make it happen.  Having a vision board to focus on your goals every single day will keep movitation levels up.

W – Want it more than anything. Every successful person has had a burning desire to achieve their goals. Finding your Why reason is key to helping stay motivated.  

X – X Factor is what will make you different from the others. When you are motivated, you tend to put on “extras” on your life like extra time for family, extra help at work, extra care for friends. This X-Factor sets you aside from the crowd and marks you out for success.

Y – You are unique. No one in this world looks, acts, thinks or talks like you. Value your unique gifts, whatever they are and use them for your success.  Be authentic.  Be you and not someone else.  For such a long time I would consciously try and hold back my "Liverpool scouse" accent as I was told that people wouldn't take me seriously with it.  As a result, I wasn't being the real me.  Not anymore.  Every single one of us has something unique to give to the world and it is now time to figure it out.

Z – Zero in on your dreams and make it happen!!!  Time to get focused and to stop drifting.  And remember to surround yourself with people who will support you with your dreams.

There are so many factors that impact motivation levels and a big killer of motivation can be those around you so choose wisely.
